German energy company RWE AG starts using gas storage service in Ukraine

German company RWE AG used the service of the gas storage in the customs warehouse regime in the territory of Ukraine as Ukrtransgaz reported.

Earlier RWE carried out all operation on gas sale only at the western border of Ukraine. The negotiations on the use of the Ukrainian underground storage facilities by RWE lasted for a few years.

“Earlier RWE worked only at the border of Ukraine and now we may use the Ukrainian gas storages. As for today, RWE has already carried out the operations for import and export of gas to Ukraine, including to the underground storage facilities in the customs warehouse regime,” RWE Representative Dietrich Hoffmann said.

Director of Operator of underground storage facilities Bohdan Maksymchuk noted that the next step, which will make Ukrainian underground storage facilities in demand of the European partners, is the short-haul services.

The German energy company is a supplier of energy for over 20 million consumers and of gas for 10 million consumers in Europe.

As of June 24, Ukraine’s underground storage facilities has 13.136 billion of cubic meters of gas and average daily load is 70 million cubic meters.

Earlier Ukrtransgaz said the reason the company has financial difficulties is artificially lowered tariffs on gas transporting and crucial flaws of code on the gas transportation system.
