The project, titled: The improvement of water supply and sewerage services in Ungheni municipality is carried out according to the established plan. The members of the Local steering committee (CDL) have come to this conclusion, which recently assembled at the Citizens Information Centre (CIC) in Ungheni, who have estimated the amount of work done in relation to the risks and challenges that arise.
The CDL’s members have raised issues of contributions to individual connections to large water supply networks. Also, there have been analised the challenges and risks that may be encountered within project implementation process. In this context, the committee members have prepared a package of proposals to remedy them in due time.
“It is a priority to ensure water and sewerage of as many settlements as possible just like road construction or waste disposal. The quality water means a safer and healthier life, so there will be mobilised all efforts onto it and there will be used all means, including the support of development partners,” said director of the Regional Development Agency (ADR) Centru, Viorel Jardan.
The project: The improvement of water supply and sewerage services in Ungheni municipality is implemented within programme: The modernisation of the local public services (SPL) in Moldova implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment of Moldova (MADRM).
As a result, approximately 750 citizens from Ungheni municipality will be connected to the water supply system and almost 1,500 ones – to sewerage system. Also, it is expected to be rehabilitated 12.4 km of aqueduct network, and the expanding of 5.4 km of aqueduct networks, 5.6 km of sewerage networks. Later, the capabilities of Ungheni operator, based on the business plan (PA), will be strengthened so as to manage improved services efficiently. The estimated project value in Ungheni city is over €3 million – €2.9 million being EU funding and €240 thousand – the contribution of beneficiaries.
