EU, Austria allocate 6 million euros on water supply project in Moldova

A project on supply with water and sewerage will be implemented in the southern Cantemir district till 2021. The Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry, Austrian Development Agency and the local authorities from the Cantemir town signed a cooperation agreement to this effect today.

Under the document, the European Union and the Austrian Development Agency will allocate six million euros for carrying out the project titled, Strengthening the water and sewerage supply infrastructure in rural areas, focused on the safe evacuation of residual waters in the Cantemir town.

The project provides for the construction of a modern residual waters purifying station, building a system of collecting and sewerage of residual waters on a distance of about 12 km, including pumping stations. Also, the present water supply system will be optimized and capacities of the economic operator providing services to this end will be developed.

”It is about a project on regional development which will improve the sanitation conditions for about 2,500 people from the Cantemir town and will create a safe environment for purifying the residual waters. The project’s activities fit the cabinet’s goals in terms of supply of the country’s settlements with water and sanitation,” Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Minister Nicolae Ciubuc said at the signing ceremony.

For his part, the head of the Chisinau-based Office of the Austrian Development Agency, Alexander Karner, reconfirmed willingness to back Moldova in the context of the joint actions provided for in Austria’s bilateral strategy of cooperation with Moldova for 2016-2020.
