Georgia enhances cooperation with Germany in shipping industry

Georgian sailors will soon have the opportunity to be employed on German and Croatian ships.

A memorandum of understanding on the mutual recognition of seafarers certificate of competency with the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Croatia was  signed today at the Georgia International Maritime Forum (GIMF) held in Batumi.

Apart from working on German ships, the cooperation with the German shipping industry includes other activities for Georgian sailors.

“These particular activities also include training, teaching and preparation. We will help Georgia to prepare and train its personnel. I am sure that as a result Georgia will be able to go onto the international arena with its sailors and civilians working in the navigation sphere’’, the Director-General of Waterways and Shipping of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure of Germany, Reinhard Klingen, said.

As the director of the Maritime Agency of Georgia Tamara Ioseliani said to local media, there are some other countries like Great Britain, Sweden and Poland with whom Georgia is trying to negotiate on similar matters.
