Uzbek-French Project Implementation Unit launched in Uzbekistan

On 16 August, an opening ceremony of the Office of the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) was held in Samarkand.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic Violaine De Villemeur, regional representative of the French Development Agency Raphael Josan, Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Investments and Khokimiyat of Samarkand attended the event.

The State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Investments was selected as the project office for implementation of projects with the participation of international financial institutions and foreign government financial institutions (IFIs / IPFO).

Uzbekistan and French Development Agency are implementing project on modernization of the system of solid waste management in Samarkand city.

The project is aimed at implementation of a system of integrated and sustainable management of solid wastes was presented in early 2017.

The Project Office monitors the timely development of pre-project, project and tender documentation for investment projects in accordance with the procedure established by law, development of measures for the timely and effective implementation of investment projects.

Within the framework of the project it is planned to build and restore about 200 garbage collection points, through which waste disposal will be facilitated and sanitary and hygienic conditions will be improved in Samarkand and equipped with the necessary equipment for prompt removal of generated waste.

About 2100 street containers will appear on the streets of tourist Samarkand. On the territory of the existing urban landfill, a sanitary landfill will be built to reliably isolate the waste from the negative impact on the condition of soils, underground and surface waters and the atmosphere. For separating and further processing of recyclables and polymers, a semi-mechanical sorting plant is planned to be launched at the site.
