The Cabinet of Ministers of Moldova on August,1 approved the initiation of negotiations and approval of signing of the Financing Agreement between the Government of Moldova and the European Commission regarding the water supply and sanitation in Cahul district. The European Union (EU) will provide €11 million for development of water supply and sanitation services in Cahul city and four neighbouring villages.
The EU-supported project is complementary to projects “Aprovizionarea cu apa si canalizare in raionul Cahul” (The water supply and sewerage in Cahul district” and “Inițiativa pentru Sanitație” (The initiative of sanitation) funded by the German Government through the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany for a total of €23.5 million.
These projects will be implemented by the German Development Bank KfW and aim at rehabilitating the basic water and sanitation infrastructure in the largest city in southern Moldova. The money provided by EU will be used to expand water and sanitation services for citizens in Cahul city and neighbouring villages Cotihana, Crihana Veche, Pascani and Manta.
