EU supports Georgia in establishing national Rural Development Network

On 27 July, the Georgian city of Batumi hosted a workshop for the country’s local action groups. The workshop provided an opportunity to discuss EU rural networks, facilitating the process of establishing the Georgian Rural Development Network (GRDN). The participants were introduced to the objectives, membership structure and governance of the National Rural Networks in Europe and got to know the thematic work of the European Network for Rural Development around topics such as smart and competitive rural areas, greening the rural economy, social inclusion and generational renewal.

The workshop also discussed the establishment of the GRDN. The network will serve as a hub for exchanging information on how rural development policy, programmes, projects and other initiatives are working in practice and how they can be improved to achieve more in the country.

The event was supported by the EU and organised by the United Nations Development Programme. The EU supports the implementation of the National Rural Development Strategy and Action Plan in Georgia through its European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development.
