Georgia gets closer to the EU scheduling first meeting within new format of cooperation

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs David Zalkaliani has announced the date of the first meeting planned within the new format of cooperation between the EU and Georgia.

“The first meeting will be held on November 21 and we are currently preparing for it”, Zalkaliani told lawmakers in parliament.

The new format initiated by the President of European Commission was announced by PM Bakhtadze last month. The format will entail a meeting between the Georgian PM and EU President once a year to assess the progress made by Georgia on its way to the EU and involve different ministers upon necessity.

Georgia has serious ambitions to get closer to the EU, Zalkaliani said, adding that appropriate steps are detailed in the government’s EU Integration roadmap initiated in May to ensure European integration at a faster rate.
