Uzbekistan, Spain to strengthen business relations between in energy, transport infrastructure

Tashkent has hosted the Uzbek-Spanish business forum, organized by the State Committee for Investments of Uzbekistan and the Spanish Agency for Export and Investment (ICEX).

Speaking at the forum, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, Adham Ikramov, said that the purpose of the event was to strengthen business relations between Uzbekistan and Spain in energy, transport infrastructure, urban water supply, solid waste management, and create an interactive platform for Spanish entrepreneurs, proposals for the development of investment cooperation.

“More than 20 companies from Spain took part in the business forum,” said Laziz Kudratov, the first deputy chairman of the State Investment Committee. “Today, the number of Spanish companies wishing to work in the Uzbek market has increased. It is noteworthy that these are the leading European businesses in the fields of energy, agriculture, solid waste processing. Another important aspect is that the forum was a preparation for the first meeting of the joint interagency commission on economic and industrial cooperation between Uzbekistan and Spain, planned for the near future and organized by the State Investment Committee.”

“Our task is to establish cooperation between the companies of the two countries,” stressed Ambassador of Spain to Uzbekistan Ignacio Ibáñez. “Economic relations are developing steadily, a number of our companies cooperate with Uzbek businesspeople.”

Spain has rich experience in growing and processing agricultural products. There are many enterprises in that country specializing on this front. Distinct among them is the company MultiScan which is known for its modern technologies for sorting fruit and vegetable products by color, shape and defects. The business forum was attended by its official representative Juan Antonio Gosalbes Seles.

“Having studied the Uzbek market, we identified a number of priority areas,” he said. “The potential of your country in cultivating and exporting fruits and vegetables has been mounting. Consequently, in the future, the demand for our company’s technologies will grow in the Uzbek market. We came up with a number of proposals at the business forum. In particular, we are ready to supply Uzbek businessmen with X-ray equipment for fruit calibration and safety analysis of agricultural products.”
