EU’s Energy Charter to assist Azerbaijan in developing long-term energy strategy

On 21 May 2018, two new initiatives under EU4Energy Governance were launched in Azerbaijan. One focuses on supporting the development of the country’s long-term energy strategy towards ‘non-oil growth’. The second initiative involves developing a code of good practice for stakeholder consultations and inter-ministerial coordination within the energy sector of Azerbaijan, based on EU best practices.

The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Energy, Samir Veliyev, welcomed the continued support of the European Union. At the same time, the Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Kęstutis Jankauskas, stressed that this cooperation highlights the importance Azerbaijan has to the European Union.

The EU4Energy Governance Programme is part of the EU4Energy initiative of the European Union. The Energy Charter Secretariat is an implementing partner responsible for delivering technical assistance to Armenia, Azerbaijan and Belarus.
