Moldova’s government approved a draft law on the ratification of the Framework Agreement with the Norwegian Environmental Finance Corporation (NEFCO), which concluded in Chisinau on July 21, 2017. The agreement acknowledges NEFCO’s status as an international financial institution in Moldova. It is aligned with the objectives of the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P). NEFCO has co-financed a range of E5P-initiated projects in Ukraine in recent years.
NEFCO will assign funds for realization of projects in the field of energy efficiency, renewable energy sources and the environment: restoration of buildings, centralized heat supply systems, renovation and modernization of parking lots, solution of problems related to wastewater and municipal waste management. The projects will be implemented at the municipal / city level, including through public-private partnerships. At the same time, municipal enterprises with a majority state capital may participate in them, which plan to rationalize their own energy consumption.
Financing is provided in the form of loans of up to 5 million euros. NEFCO is an international financial institution acting as the implementing agency of the project, financed by the Regional Fund Partnership for Energy Efficiency and Environmental Protection in Eastern Europe Environment (E5P), in which the Republic of Moldova participates.
