The World Bank to help optimization of the transport system of Odessa

The World Bank jointly with the transport, communications and road traffic organization department of Odessa City Council is drawing up recommendations to optimize the transport system of Odessa City and determining the top priority segments for investment as part of the Stable Mobility for Odessa Project, authorized official of Ukraine’s Antimonopoly Committee Ahiya Zahrebelska has said.

“Based on the first results of the study regarding Euroterminal, the following is noted: in order to reduce the negative impact, it is recommended building a new entrance to the port bypassing the city in order to avoid the monopoly of Euroterminal, or to make this entrance public, combining port and customs formalities,” she wrote on her Facebook page.

In addition, it is recommended to reconsider the advantages and disadvantages of current arrangements with Euroterminal, including the advantages of concentrating the entire truck traffic through Euroterminal. This can lead to additional costs. Zahrebelska said that Euroterminal is aware of the aggravation of the negative attitude of the residents towards them; it plans to further reduce tariffs in the next five years. The company proposes to build a new road that will connect their gates and main route and ensure that prices will be affordable.
