Eastern European countries of the former Soviet Union are Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine. Their combined population is close to 55 million. All three states have a broad agricultural base, and, except Moldova an industrial one.
Ukraine and Moldova are engaged in territorial conflicts with Russia.
